Birkirkara Parish Church

Birkirkara Parish Church - St. Helen

Birkirkara parish dates around 1436 and was in honour of St Helen, which was also the Saint this church was dedicated to when it was first built, in the 18th century.  The church became a Collegiate church in 1630 and a Minor Basilica on the 18th January 1950.

Birkirkara Parish Church - St. Joseph the Worker

The St. Joseph the Worker parish church was built in 1965 and is dedicated to St Joseph the Worker. In 1969 the church became a subsidiary of the Birkirkara parish and it was only in 1973 that the church received the status of a parish church.

Birkirkara Parish Church - St. Mary

The church of St Mary is a beautiful church that was built in 1617. In 1950 the Collegiate Chapter of Birkirkara decided to restore and open the church again after it had been closed for several years. The renovation works ended in 1973 and the church was open to the public once again. The church of St Mary was declared a parish by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca by a decree on 8th May 2005.
