Um El Faroud
The Um El Faroud wreck dive is ideal for those who like to explore ships and the underwater world at the same timeThe Um El Faroud is a 115 metre long, 10,000 ton tanker that was sunk in 1998 after an explosion that killed nine Maltese workers. It was moved to its current location in Zurrieq after lying for three years in the harbour of Valletta. The Um El Faroud sits upright on the sandy seabed with only 30 meters to the main deck. The Um El Faroud is a very popular wreck dive in Malta that leaves divers coming back due to its large size and many places to explore. The entry into the sea is from a small harbour with a lot of boats so be careful when crossing the bay to the other side towards the wreck. The Um El Faroud wreck can be entered easily and when entered from the stern, divers can enter the kitchen and from there work their way through the large ship. For divers who are not qualified in wreck diving there are walkways to the left and right of the ship that can be followed. The inside of the Um El Faroud is easily accessible too. The 110 m long ship has been split in two and separated by the winter storms allowing divers to the see the belly of the ship. Divers will see plenty of fish during this wreck dive such as large schools of sea bream, parrotfish, barracudas, cuttle fish and many more. Be very aware of currents! |
