MV Cominoland & MV Karwela
The MV Cominoland and MV Karwela are two wreck dives in Gozo that allow you to explore the wonderful underwater lifeThe MV Cominoland and the MV Karwela are two wreck dives located very close to each other situated in Ix-Xatt l-Ahmar, which is the area between Gozo and Malta. The Cominoland and the Karwela were scuttled down in August 2006 and was a huge success, until then they both used to serve as passenger and car ferries. It took almost six hours for the Karwela to go down and it is now lying upright at the bottom at about 35 meters with the Cominoland lying slightly on the side just 50 meters away at 25 meters below sea-level. These wreck dives are easily accessible from the shore with several exit points. Swim out 100 meters until you see the Karwela, descend and explore the main deck and do lots of penetration inside the wreck. On another day you can explore the Cominoland that used to serve as a ferry between Valletta Grand Harbour and Comino. The ship measures 34.42m by 8.60m and offers several safe options for penetration since it was purposely sunk as a diving wreck. |
