Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady

Visit Ghaxaq and celebrate the festa with the locals

The Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady is celebrated in Ghaxaq every year on the 15th of August. Starting weeks before the festa arrives, the people of Hal Ghaxaq decorate the town with colourful lights, statues, festoons and more, in order to create a vibrant festive atmosphere. During the week before the festa, you can enjoy spectacular ground and aerial fireworks that accompany cheerful brass bands all over the town of Ghaxaq.

The culmination of the festa is reached on the day of the 15th of August, where, apart from religious funtions inside the church, there is also a procession around Ghaxaq with the titular statue followed by brass bands and crowds of devotees. The feast comes to an end with a great fireworks display as the statue returns back to its place inside the parish church.
