Food, drinks and socializing at the Malta Artisan Market in Kalkara
The 2011 Malta Artisan Market was held on a rainy day around the playground on the Kalkara waterfront on Sunday 30th October. Around 15 stands were spread out selling various crafts, arts as well as locally produced goods and more people than expected defied the weather and attended the event. Visitors were able to purchase honey, olive oil, olives, capers and other tasty products.
Plenty of families with children dresses especially for Halloween attended and face painting was offered topping it off. They added a lively atmosphere to the event and a competition for best Halloween costume was held at the end of the event. To fill the empty stomachs after all the the trick or treating, tasty sandwiches were sold!
Tango performances were also held and lively music was played during the whole event to keep the spirits up during the short showers. Visitors could also enjoy the lovely views over the Birgu fortifications and walk along the Kalkara Waterfront.
Kalkara is located in the Eastern part of Malta and gets its name from the Calce, meaning lime in Italian, since there was a lime kiln present in the town during the Roman times. Today Kalkara is the home to around 3,000 people and hosts several events each year.
