Hillary Clinton's Visit to Malta
US Secretary of States Hillary Clinton's brief stay in Malta
Hillary Clinton made a short visit to Malta on Monday 16th October on her way to Tripoli, Libya for meetings with the National Transitional Council on Tuesday. Her visit to Libya involved discussing how to prevent terrorist groups from getting access to thousands of shoulder-launched missiles that are now missing in Libya.
During her brief visit to Malta, Hillary Clinton had a short meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at the Auberge de Castille to discussed different issues regarding Malta's role in the Libyan conflicts. Security was extremely high and the Gilormu Cassar Avenue leading to the Castille in Valletta was closed to traffic for security reasons.
During the meeting Hillary Clinton also thanked Malta and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi for its role in Libya and announced the new US Ambassador to Malta. Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley was selected by President Barack Obama and according to Hillary Clinton, is one of the US most experienced diplomats and is the first US career diplomat to be posted in Malta in 25 years.
After the brief meeting, the Prime Minister and the US Secretary of States visited the Barakka Gardens as well as the Grand Harbour to the joy of tourists and Maltese watching.
