Hamrun chocolate festival Malta 2011
Delicious foods, incredible art and a lot of entertainment
The Hamrun Chocolate Festival was held in the evening of Saturday, the 29th of October, 2011.
The chocolate festival is becoming synonymous with the town of Hamrun, as for the last three years this very popular event gathered large crowds who are interested to see how creative artists can turn ordinary chocolate into extraordinary works of art. Hamrun also has a history with sweet teeth, as one can find a good number of confectionaries in the area. Chocolate was introduced to Malta by the Knights of St. John around 400 years ago, and it is believed that Hamrun hosted shops of cacao beans as early as the 17th century.
Perhaps the highlight of the 2011 Hamrun Chocolate Festival was a large sculpture made wholly out of chocolate – a beautiful replica of a car from the 1930s. Visitors also had the opportunity to taste interesting recipes that not only included sweet dishes such as pastries, cakes and ice-cream but also savoury dishes with poultry and game, pizzas and also ravioli with chocolate sauce!
Apart from the delicious smells that filled the Hamrun air, the chocolate festival was also accompanied by a variety of entertainers – singers, dancers and various musicians walking around the crowded streets of Hamrun. It was definitely one of the most delicious events in Malta this year!
