2011 European Film Festival in Malta
11th Edition of the European Film Festival in Malta with over 20 films and countries represented
The 11th Edition of the European Film Festival was organized by the Representation of the European Commission in Malta in collaboration with Media Desk and was held between 14th October and 2nd November, 2011.
20 films from 20 European countries were shown to a large number of film lovers and the two films to open the festival at the Valletta Waterfront were the Maltese short film “Daqqet ix-Xita” and the Danish film “Love and Rage”. The collection of films presented at the 11th Edition of the European Film Festival was very interesting and diverse and also presented the ability that films have to unite people across borders.
Following the opening ceremony, each evening of the festival held the viewing of a different film, always the best of what the European cinema has to offer. All this was done in the capital of Malta, Valletta, exactly at Dar l-Ewropa. The 11th Edition of the European Film Festival was a great success and several films were so popular that they had to be screened twice.
Gozo also took part in the film festival by showing “Seoda: Treasures” from the Irish Film Institute, at the Citadel Cinema in Victoria with an audience that included Anton Tabone, former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
To celebrate the success of the 11th Edition of the European Film Festival in Malta the closing night was held at the St James Cavalier in Valletta where the head of the Representation of the European Commission in Malta, Martin Bugelli summed up the festival. During the same evening the Polish film “33 Scenes From Life” was shown. Talented award-winning director of the film, Margorzata Szumovska attended this screening and answered questions from the curious audience.
