Ta' Xbiex
Ta' Xbiex is a small town in the Eastern part of Malta that looks over Marsamxetto harbour with a population of around 2,000 people. Ta’ Xbiex is mostly known for the number of foreign embassies including those of Egypt, Italy, France and the British High Commission. There are also a number of service providers such as insurance companies, law firms, auditing and accounting firms. It also hosts part of the Yacht Marina and several marine services are found in the area. There are a number of restaurants along the coast that take advantage of the location and offer spectacular harbour views. The name Ta' Xbiex comes from the name ‘tbexbix’ which means sunrise, since from its geographical location, there are spectacular sunrise views over Valletta. The town was originally a fishing village that slowly grew into a residential and commercial town. The coat of arms of the town shows a vessel’s wheel representing the Marina. The parish church dedicated to St. John of the Cross was established in 1969. Ta’ Xbiex is known for a quiet and relaxed atmosphere and the sea-side promenade provides a good opportunity for leisurely walks.
