George Cross Award Commemoration

Remember the lost lives on this special day

King George VI honored the Maltese people who were suffering very intense bomb raiding on April 15, 1942 by saying ‘To honour the brave people I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history'.

H.E. Viscount Gort VC., Governor and Commander-In-Chief, Malta, said the same words on September 13 f the same in St. George's Square (Palace Square) Valletta, when he presented the medal to Chief Justice, Sir George Borg. The honor was received on behalf of the besieged Islanders.


To remember this historical event the Malta Tourism Authority will be presenting an audio-visual performance in Valletta where visitors will be able to re-live one of Malta's most glorious moments in history.
