Anchor Bay Diving Site
Anchor Bay diving site is quite popular amongst the Maltese, especially because of the interesting marine life that one can enjoyAnchor Bay is also commonly known for Popeye Village and is a popular bay on the north-west of Malta. On days when the north-easterly wind is strong and prevents diving in many areas, diving in Anchor Bay is still fine. Entry to the sea is safely done from a pier and once you are in the water you will notice that the bottom slopes gradually dropping to 18m. Follow the cliff face out of the bay to the open sea and you will see that the seabed is covered with large boulders, providing interesting swim troughs. These boulders are home to octopus, groupers, scorpion fish, stone fish and some larger fish. Around 150m from the bay there is a large cave that is 10m deep. After entering the cave, you can easily surface inside and admire the beautiful dome-shaped ceiling. As you exit the cave, the colour of the water is incredibly blue, and if you swim a little further on after the cave you will see a large window and here you can spot parrot fish, groupers and Moray eels. |
