The Cottonera Lines, Cottonera
Fortifications around the Three CitiesThe aim of the Cottonera Lines fortifications was to guard the Three Cities. This massive line of fortifications was one of the major military structural projects of the Knights in the first half of the 17th century. They surround the cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua. These fortifications got their name after Grandmaster Nicola Cottoner, who is linked well to Cospicua with his surname’s emblem depicted in the city’s coat-of-arms. |
