Paceville
Paceville, Malta's nightlife meccaPaceville is one of Malta’s most famous areas, particularly known for the exciting nightlife it provides. Located between St. George’s Bay and Spinola Bay, it includes a number of clubs, bars, restaurants, casinos, cinemas and many other entertainment possibilities – with most establishments open until the early hours of the morning. Paceville attracts huge crowds of young people, both locals and tourists, especially during the weekends and the summer season. A number of wine bars, jazz clubs, restaurants and up-market bars tend to attract an older audience as well. The area has a number of accommodation possibilities ranging from 5-star hotels to budget accommodation and self-catering apartments. Paceville saw its beginning in the 1920s when a few summer houses were built in the area close to Portomaso by Dr. Guiseppe Pace. Some of these houses can still be seen today, however, they are hidden between high-rise blocks of apartments. The town got its name from Dr. Pace, who also funded a chapel run by the Augustinian fathers. Paceville's change into a tourist resort started in the 1960s where two five-star hotels where built in the Dragonara Peninsula. At the same time, a couple of bars and clubs were launched to cater for the rising number of British tourists and working men living in the St. Julian’s, St. Andrew's and Pembroke. Development gained momentum in the last decade of the 20th century, were several bars, clubs and hotels were constructed. Paceville falls under the St. Julian’s administration and parish.
