Senglea Parish Church
History Senglea Parish ChurchThe parish church of Senglea was built in 1580 monument to the Christian Victory after the Great Siege of 1565. The parish church in Senglea is dedicated to Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and became a parish in 1581. In 1786 Pope Pius VI declared the church to be a “collegiata insignis”, while Pope Benedict XV in 1921 honored the church with the title of Basilica. Sadly the church was destroyed during the second world was in 1941 and it took it took 15 years for the church to be rebuilt. It was consecrated by Mgr Gonzi. Parish priest: Rev. Can.
