Malta attracting several famous Hollywood actors

The film industry in Malta growing considerably year after year

Almost every Maltese heard the news that the famous Tom Cruise is looking forward to buying a house in Malta, but the most recent news is that Tom Hanks will be visiting Malta to shoot a film here around May. 

Hanks will be playing his role in the movie Captain Philips, a film that revolves around an American captain who was taken hostage by armed Somali pirates, and who eventually was rescued by the US Navy. The Malta Film Commission have stated that a team from the movie visited Malta for discussions about the film.

There are unconfirmed reports that Tom Cruise will be shooting two films in Malta, and if this news is eventually confirmed, it is very possible that Cruise and his family will be staying in Malta for a while this year. 

Apparently, Cruise fell in love with Malta when he visited Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their six children at Guarena Palace, an 18th century fortress-like villa in Qrendi last year. 

2012 seems to be a very hectic year for Malta’s film industry, as Italian film start Raoul Bova is expected to start work on a series called Come Un Delfino; a shooting which is expected to start around April. 

With all these famous actors visiting and working in the Maltese Islands, Malta’s reputation as film shooting destination is growing all the time.
